GOP=GANGSTERS OR PIMPS?

Would you call the GOP Party gangsters or pimps?  Let me define each word for you, then you be the judge.
Websters definition for the word gangster is: A member of a criminal gang.  The Webster definition for the word pimp is: A person that takes money from another under duress.  I believe that some things are better left unsaid.

Will the Real Police Chief Please Stand Up?

If anyone knows who got the title of Chief of the Norwood Police Department will you please fill us in?  Just how long does this really take?  I don't agree with taking a test to select a Chief.  This process is outdated and old.  Times have changed, and I think its time for Norwood to change its position to promoting for the Chief.  Tell us what you think.

Norwood Crossing Guards Got Double Crossed

Did you have a favorite Norwood crossing guard?  Did you always notice them being there?  I did.  Our crossing guards did us proud.  I have never heard of one kid getting hit with them on the job.  Not to mention they provided safety for adults.  Now they are being double crossed...............First by the City of Norwood, Ohio.  Then by the Norwood School Board.

The city had the responsibility of the crossing guards for years, I know at least 15.  In this latest round of budget cuts the city decided to do away with them altogether.  The city made it clear, we can not afford to pay crossing guards any longer.  Period point blank.  No maybes, no we will look at our budgets, no we will find the money to keep them.  THEY ARE GONE!

Personally, I miss them.  I miss Norma.  I miss the little man that is the same height as the children he is crossing.  I miss the mother of four children who was working that part-time job with pride.  The job of a crossing guard is hard.  You may get the bird flipped to you on a daily bases.  You may get hit by a person not watching what he/she is doing?  You might encounter a speeder who may keep going.  This is one job I simply could not do.  I admire anyone willing to do it.

One thing is for sure, they are not doing it for the pay.  It pays little and  requires you to come to your job twice a day(most people clock in once). Crossing guards endure all kinds of weather.  Rain, hell, sleet, and snow to name a few.  You have to endure freezing cold weather.  When the heat reaches 90 degrees, there is no air conditioner available. Yes, crossing guards have a thank less job.

Why do crossing guards do it?  If someone out there wants to answer that question, my faithful readers would love to hear from you.

The Norwood School Board passed a levy  in May 2011.  You would think crossing guards would get the money needed to work. Not a chance.  I never believed for one second this money was for the children. How can you say you are for the children them put their parents out of work?  We voted in a Levy and the Norwood School Board cut jobs.  How can you be for the children but will not pick up the tab to keep them safe?  This  present school board knew the City of Norwood was in financial trouble and the crossing guards was on the chopping block.  Where was the leadership of someone on the board to speak up and demand a vote to use the levy money for crossing guards?  Since they campaigned on, "It's for the children".  I never believed it for one moment.  That is one reason I voted against this levy.  It really was never about the children.  If so would that not have been one of your first priorities?

Yes, they were double crossed by both the City of Norwood and the Norwood School Board.  I miss them.  So do the children who cross these dangerous streets on a daily bases.  Let's all hope the Norwood Schools get enough volunteers to cover these corners.  Our crossing guards were the best, I just hate they got double crossed.

That is one reason I'm asking for your vote to take a seat on the Norwood School Board.  I will bring up issues that matter to you.  I will not go along with the Superintendent just to get along with the Superintendent,   I will stand up and speak out for our children.  I'm asking for your vote on Nov. 8th.

The Wrath of the Weather

Has anyone else noticed the wrath of the weather?  Is The Creator mad at America?  Has the weather ever been this  bad?  Tornado's, floods, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, wild fires, and ice storms have effected us all.  Some of us have been in  the wrath of the weather.

Is this because of climate change?  Is some of our behavior causing these wraths?  We are a nation of excess and  maybe the terrible weather is our own doing.  The creator is not happy with us and he/she is sending us a message that unless we change our ways he/she will cause more wreck-age.  The force of these disasters are telling.  The come stronger, last longer and devastate more and more people.

The weather is a 24 hour cycle.  It is depressing to watch the reports on the weather.  They tell us how hot it is going to be, how many inches of snow we will get, and how many lives were lost in the wrath.  That is news I can live without.  I can go out and know it is hot.  We listen to the news tell us how many days its been hot,  and how much hotter it is going to get.  We name or most devastating hurricanes  after women.  Why is that?  If was name was Irene or Katherina I would be wondering why my name?  If by chance a storm comes and its named Yvonne.  Don't worry it will calm down and do little to  no damage.

Dear Congressman Steve Chabot,

Your Town Hall Meeting on Monday August 22, 2011 sucked!   I have to express my disappointment with the sham you pulled on your constituents.

First of all your staff posted, NO CAMERAS.  Your staff was more concerned with that then welcoming us out for the evening.  Your staff asked us to fill out a form if we wanted to ask a question.  I did not.  You and your staff knew you would never read all of those questionnaires.  Then your staff member went through them and picked the topic that you could ramble on and on about.  It was not even a slight of hand trick.
I would think a Congressman  would arrive on time, (if not early) shake hands, give a smile,  take a picture, give a hug,.........nope.

You  arrived late at 7:15,  came in the back door,  went straight to the podium,  and proceeded to ramble till 8:10.

The police officer got physical with people that had their cameras and you act like you had no pulse to stop the madness.  Your constituents were handled to rough.  All because you did not want to take a photo?  One man held up his hand for 30 minutes and you never acknowledged him.  Never told him to speak with you after the meeting.  Just nothing.  Approximately  10 people had blue pieces of tape over their mouth symbolizing  that you silenced their voice.  From what I seen, you and your staff did just that.  You talked the entire town hall meeting.   It was as if we were in school in a classroom and the teacher did not want to be interrupted.  We had to sit there and listen.  That is not a Town Hall Meeting!

You lost the constituents  after the first 10 minutes because you sounded pitiful.  You looked pitiful.  You looked scrip ed and phony.  You didn't look comfortable.  You didn't know where you were.  At least you did not mention where you were.  Did you know where you were?

I suspect you came to get people's  information so that you could add it to your address collection.  You never intended to meet and greet your constituents did you?  You knew you would slither in there and slither out.  You said nothing new.  You couldn't make your conversation simple.  You talked about old, stale issues.  You told us over and over again that you have been in Congress 14 years the first time and 2 years this time.  Did you notice the people shake their heads and say term limits?  I suspect you didn't, you kept your head buried in the sand(I mean papers) till you left.  Your staff collected at least 20 to 30 questions and you read 6?  Not to mention the  topics you keep repeating over and over.   It was sad.  You seem stall, you seemed old, you looked old, that hair style is tired and you need to get it together.  The clothes you had on didn't seem guineue.  A suit to a Town Hall Meeting Congressman Chabot?  Where was the jeans,  or shorts.  I mean look casual sometime.

You never said a kind word about our President.  To not have anything good to say about our President is so sad.  You lacked common sense to be positive.

I left there thinking WOW did I just witness that?  People were walking around like zombies trying to come out of the haze of nothing-ness that you put us in.  We were asked by you Mr. Chabot to come to your Town Hall Meeting and you treated us crap.

I came there Congressman Chabot to meet you and shake your hand.  I wanted to put my face to your face to show you the lady that has been writing and e-mailing your office.  I wanted to say while shaking your hand, "Congressman Chabot my name is Yvonne Collins and I'm your constituent that has sent you a number of letters and e-mail".  I was wanting you to say "Oh yes, I have read at least one of your letters or e-mail".  Instead I got nothing.

I'll keep writing my letters to my Congressman I'll keep attending Town Hall Meetings, I'll bring my camera hoping to get a picture with you.  I"ll  fill out the question card with my information on it.  I'll pay attention to the other 45 minutes of what you have to say.  I'll sit and think this is time well spent.  I'll do my civic duty to petition my Government. I won't give in to  negative thoughts.

Until that day come, Congressman Steve Chabot your Town Hall Meeting Sucked!

Signed,

You Wasted My Evening

Sagging .... All Time Low

I know you have seen the sag look.  Where men and some women wear their pants down below their behinds.  Some people sag to the point their pants are down to their hips.  Showing all  their under wear.  I understand this fashion started in our prisons.  My understanding  is, in prisons this was a  way to express to  gay men that he was available.  He would pull his pants down on his behind for all to see that I'm down with being gay.  No harm done there.  We the public did not have to see it or be offended by it.

Now that the sagging look has came out of the prisons and into our communities, Are you accepting of it?  I'm not!  It is a disgrace.  It shows our world is in turmoil.  When we let our men and women walk around with their behinds out and nothing is done, we are in trouble.  Some men sag with no shirt on.  They sag to the point of having to hold their pants up. No belt,  no rope and sometimes no hope.  They look a hot mess.

Have you ever confronted a child sagging?  I have all the time.  I do it when the opportunity presents itself. I do it in a manner that will not hurt or offend the saggie.  I simply ask him or her why?  I sometimes ask, did your mother see you leave the house looking like that?  Or if the sag is really bad, I scold them and say,"there is classy and their is trashy, you are looking trashy.

Yes, I know its dangerous to say anything to any body's children.  It's the mom in me.  I can't help it.  I refuse to let children think its okay to walk around with your underwear showing,  holding your crouch, with no shirt on.  Someone has to speak up and hold these children accountable for their uncivilized manners.  Most of them want you to notice them.  They want you to engage them.  They want to be held accountable.  If we never say anything to them this bad behavior will continue.  You will not reach everyone but if you reach and teach one......... that is better then teaching none.

Fashion trends come and go.  Lets help the sag go faster by speaking up and telling our young folk to pull them up!

Lift Every Voice

I love America.  I have never been anywhere else, to know if I would want to live some place else.  I love it here.  In America  I can lift my voice and express my thoughts, frustrations, dreams, and opinions.  I love this freedom.  History tells the story's of how many people died for people like me to lift my voice.  If this is the case........I Thanks these people.

To those that want to take my  different points of thoughts, frustrations, dreams and opinions to another level is unfair.  I'm allowed to think different.  I'm allowed to have different points of view.  I'm also allowed to be a jerk, a comedian, a philosopher, a poet, a drum major, a activist, a prophet, a singer, whatever I desire.

This blog is the way I can be all of the above.  I'm funny, I'm frustrated, but most of all I'm a good listener.  I will listen to anybody express their whatever.  That is why America is good.  We allow this.

It is up to each individual person to decide what is best for them.  The articles are meant for discussions.  Nothing more nothing less.  It is for each person to read, and take away from it whatever you would like.  I do it all the time.  I read a lot of things I disagree with.  However, I don't use it against a them to try to hurt them.  No, I actually do the opposite.........I wish they would lift their voices louder so that others can hear and learn and feel what it is they are trying to say.

Love and Peace to all:
Sincerely,
Yvonne Collins

Are you a Nag When It Comes to the Sag?

Someone has to say it and someone has to do it!  Tell our young men to pull their pants up!  This whole sag era has me wondering how far will it go?  When and where does it stop?  What next?

What goes through your head when you see a young mans pants down below his hips?  Do you turn away quickly?  Do you blush with embarrassment?  Do you point it out to your company?  Or do you accept it as a fashion statement?

I invite your thoughts on this issue.  I will tell you what I do and say when I get the opportunity to say something to our young folks about their pants on the ground.

Not in this article but in a later article.  You have to stay tune.

Exciting Times

Wow, I'm loving this run for Norwood School District.  I'm getting a lot of attention.  I must be on some folks mind.  I feel like I'm representing.  Ever heard the saying any publicity is good publicity?  There are three other candidates and nothing about them.  It's all about me!!!!!

Please give me your vote on Nov. 8th and make it really really about me!!!!!!

I'm Not Afraid

Dear Opposition,

I'm not afraid of you.  To quote Eminem,  "I'm not afraid to take a stand".  I'm not afraid of your tactics.  I'm not afraid of your criticisms.   I'm not afraid that you will make up lies and untruths.  I'm not afraid that you will dig into my past.  All the while not seeing the good future I have.  No,  I'm not afraid that you will find out that I was in a crazy abusive relationship in the 80's.  I'm not afraid that I have touched some nerves in my commentaries on issues.  I'm not afraid of you. I'm not afraid of your lies and smear campaign.  You can't make me afraid.  I am who I am and I like me.

Let me tell you who I am.  I have never done any drugs.  I have never done crack, crystal meths, PCP, heroin, estacy, pills, bath salts nor any mind altering drugs.  I have never been interested in doing drugs.  I have seen up close and personal the damage they do.  For anyone that finds themselves unable to come to terms with their own personal use,  I hope you seek and  find the help you need.

I have never mistreated my children or any ones children for that fact.  I care for children 6 days a week.  I provide care and love for all children, all colors, all religions, from all kinds of families.  That is why I'm not afraid.  I got it going on.  I know what I can do...........so I tell myself go head on with your bad self and don't be afraid of the haters.

So I say bring it on.  Because............ I'M NOT AFRAID!

Here is My Announcement..................

I'm running as a Independent Norwood School Board Candidate!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I decided to run for a seat on the board immediately after the passage of the School Board Levy.

Norwood School Levy Passes

The Norwood School levy passed by a vote of 1,204 to 920.  Congratulations to Mr. Amodio and his entire Administration.  I'm sure everyone will work hard to make the voters proud.  It will be interesting to watch the process.  I'm positive in 10 years we will see the fruit our our money.

Congratulations to all.

SHAME ON AMERICA

Notice who is celebrating the most with the death of Osama Bin Laden?  White folks.  Notice the excitement on their faces?  White folks.  Notice how the are partying and dancing?  White folks.  Notice the jubilation with themselves as they say "we got him"?  White folks.  Notice the Presidents rating approval go up with the death of another human being?  White voters.

We are a sad, sad county.  We celebrate the death of another person.  In America we are so arrogant and shameful that some even draped themselves in the America Flag and marched down the street.  White folks are a blood thirsty people.  I say white because I have yet to see one black dancing in the street.  I have yet to see one black person chant, U.S.A.  I have yet to see one black person that really care that Bin Laden is dead.  I have yet to see one black person just over come with emotions that this man is dead.  You see black folk have been under the same microscope that Bin Laden has been under.  We understand and know what this Gov.  is capable of.  We know white folk will stop at nothing to have a enemy to hate.  That is their history and there is no denying it.  White folks get off on violence.  They masturbate thinking about it.  They love their wars and guns.

That is why our President had to do what he did.  If not,  he would not have gotten back into the white house in 2012.  President Barack Obama is a smart, smart man.  He has the white mans number.  He knows that war and violence speaks their language.  He used this opportunity to pull them in,  and from what I'm seeing he has done it.  Mr. President I say you make black folks proud.

The rest of the world is watching Americans and I can only imagine what they are thinking.  How do you tell our children not to be violent when the adults are only that.  Only in America are we so smug as to celebrate this madness.  But I understand the reason.

IT WAS THE ONLY WAY WHITE FOLKS WOULD VOTE FOR HIM.  THEY LOVE THEIR WARS, VIOLENCE AND GUNS.

I apologize to our PRESIDENT

Dear President Barack Hussein Obama,
I would like to apologize to you for all the racism you have had to endure in America.  You are the first and only President that has to explain why you don't wear a America(made in china)Flag Pin.  You Mr. President is the only President that have received more death threats than any President in America's history.  You, Mr. President is the only one that had to show his Birth Certificate.  You,  Mr.President are now being questions about your grades.  You are the only President that has ever had a colleague yell out "You Lie"  in a State of America speech.  You are the only President that has been asked to give up his church and mentor.  Mr. President you really really love AMERICA.

Some of us really love AMERICA too and appreciate you and your family.  You have served us well.  You are noble, humble, honest, and beautiful.  I wish you all the wealth, humor, swag, love and health you can muster.  I apologize for all you have had to put up with.

Diggin the New Developments

I'm simply digging the new developments that is suppose to happen.  I say a big thumbs up!  A high five and all that good stuff.  A new movie theater, a new hotel and new stores is what I'm talking about.  This city needs new and fresh options.  If the Mayor is responsible for making this happen, I say this is what leadership is all about.  To everyone and anyone involved with this "Good Job".

To the developers I have always been impressed with your work.  I felt proud to be apart of your team when I worked at Wild Oats.  Unfortunately circumstances beyond my control forced me to leave.  However I still regularly go visit my old place, stroll down memory lane, or just walk to Rookwood just to sight see.  I love your work.  I know the city of Norwood is excited about having you as a partner.  We all are excited and look forward to what you will bring the city.  KEEP UP THE WONDERFUL WORK YOU DO.

Playing Catch Up

I feel like the Norwood Girls Varsity Softball team.  I have to catch up.  My busy, never a dull moment life has left me scrambling to find time for my faithful,  loyal readers.  Thank you for coming to Norwood News and Views Blog.  If you are new I welcome you.

The news and views here are divergent points of views.  I bring another perspective to the happenings in my city.  I view things from a Black point of view.  I bring you the truth as I see, live and experience it.  Some like it and tell me to keep on keeping on.  Some don't like it and tell me what I can do with this blog.  Either way I hope you enjoy reading the articles.

What's New in Norwood?

What new stuff is going on in the 45212?  Well lets count the way.  There is a new Dots store.  There is a drive thru-Little Cesar Pizza coming.  I understand a bigger and better Ted's Pawn Shop is coming.  I like the New Cricket Store.  I like the new Marshall's.  I like the new Kroger store.  Good things are happening and I like it.  The more the better.  I would like to see even more businesses come to Norwood.  A adult store would not hurt my feelings.  A tattoo parlor would do well.  Our Chamber of Commerce is working hard and I like the job they are doing.  Keep bringing the businesses.  We will keep supporting  them.  Thanks

Grappling with Gas Prices

If you had told me a year ago that gas would be $4.00 dollars a gallon.  I would have looked at you suspicious.  If  I see you today I would say you are like a Ms./Mr.  Cleo.  You looked into your crystal ball and got it right.  The national average cost for a gallon of gas is $4.00.  I think this is a  sign of the times.

I'm glad I had the privilege of driving when gas was .79 cents a gallon.  Remember those days.  A person could fill their tank for $10.00 or $15.00.  Times were good back then.  Global warming was not a issue.  The weather was great for driving.  Driving laws were unheard of.  No seat belt laws, no limit on passengers, no check points.  Now, driving a car is like giving up all your constitutal rights.  You agree to be stopped and searched at anytime. You have to have your seat belt on.  You have to have your headlights on when its drizzling.  In the city of Cincinnati if you have over size rims you can have your car stopped and towed.  Not to mention the hefty price you will pay to get it back.  Yes, driving is getting expensive.  So to sock us with the high gas prices is making driving a headache.

I find myself seeking other means of transportation.  Public bus service is one option I have used lately.  Taxis' and cabs are at our disposable.  I will ride my bike as the weather gets warmer.  I will walk to stores.  I will try to make only one driving trip per day.  I will car share whenever possible.  I will not pick up my kid from school as much, she will have to walk.  Yes, these gas prices has put a serious dent in how I roll.  What about you?

THIS LEVY IS LUDICROUS

The Superintendent held a town hall meeting at Williams Elementary on April 18, 2011.  The attendance was about 20 people.  Most folks there had a interest in the levy passing.  That was okay.  I wanted to hear their reasons for wanting it to pass.  I wanted to hear any board member speak on why they felt the need for a 10 year 10 million dollar levy.  I wanted to see all  interested parties interact with one another about this levy.  You know a real town hall.

Instead we got the Superintendent Mr. Amodio repeating the same selling line.  It will cost $5.00 dollars a week.  We will have to close the library.  You know the exact same thing you read on the notice on the door.  Exact same thing.  Folks if you want the exact same o thing then vote for this levy.

If you want to see something better vote NO and force him to do something else.  Force Mr. Amodio to speak of the good the bad and the ugly.  He wants to sell us on the good.  That is fine.  There is a lot of good things going on.  However, the bad and the ugly is what we have to discuss. Leadership is discussing this.  This levy money is not going to fix it.  Leadership does, and this Superintendent does not have the leadership skills to do the job.

I would not have minded this levy if it had been brought to the community in a different manner.  When you try to insult my intelligence with the only $5.00 dollar a week, or we have not had a levy since 1995 crap it rubs folks the wrong way.  It might be only $5.00 dollars a week but $250.00 a year hurts like hell to a family barley paying the rent.  That family is mine.

The Superintendent make it clear he was not there to have a town hall community meeting.  He was there to sell this levy.  I was the only one in the meeting that made it very clear that I was not buying what he was selling and that is when he decided on his own to close down the meeting.  And not everyone had spoke.  Say what you want about me, I was there to speak to speak my mind.  I made it clear ......Vote No

WoW What a Week!

To the readers of Norwood News and Views we apologize for not blogging before now.  We have been working a a project.  It took the entire week.  I must say it looks great!  We will catch up on some news and views.  Stay tune.

Norwood Students are being Shortchanged

When I think of education I think of exploring people, places and things unknown.  I think of being taken to places I wouldn't  normally go.  I think of being challenged to be different and to think different.   I think of the arts.  I am shown a old western movie.  I am educated about who Doris Day was.  I'm made to find the beauty in Malcolm X.  No matter how uncomfortable it may be.  Education is suppose to make you pick up a instrument and learn to play it.  Education is having a place to say "I need condoms because I'm experimenting".  Education is black boys being able to say and express "I need more".  Education is a white girl asking, "why am I attracted to this black boy"?  Education is learning about the medication (ADD)  that plague so many of our children.  Education is a  having discussion about our dear sister Rhianna.  Education is inviting our parents for a surprise thank you party.  Education is having a role in a play that was hand picked by a teacher thinking of you.  Education is losing and still having fun while doing it.  Education is openly discussing the pregnant girls in our schools, education is everything and it's everywhere.

Norwood Students are hip, savoy, bright, over exposed, and begging us to give them the education that they deserve.  Until we do something different........... all of us even the students are being shortchanged.  That is shameful.

That is why I'm voting NO on this levy.

Norwoods Negro need to NetWork

Attention!!  Norwood Negros we need to network.  Networking is the key that bring solutions.   Networking is a tool that says I'm paying attention.  It also gives answers.  Answers to questions that we don't get.  In my expert opinion I would say that most Negros are transitional. Meaning we only only here for a short time.  Most Negro families are just passing through.  It is what happened to me.  Whether its the cheap rent, section 8 housing, baby mama drama, HUD housing, inexpensive home purchase, a place to shack up with a soul mate, employment, need a single room, staying at the Salvation Army rehabilitation home or was born and raised, or a family just starting out, we all play a part.
Networking let your opinions and voices be heard.  It is what we all need.

I hope the Negros in Norwood will act noble, prosper, get involved, and pay attention.  That is all one Norwood Negro can ask to another Norwood Negro.

I commend you and welcome you.

Tax Dateline Is Near

April 15, 2011 is near.  The day we have a date with IRS.

Do you think we need another way we should implement tax returns?
Do you think we need a flat tax?
Would you agree  to 3% flat tax for families?
Would you agree to a 5% flat tax for businesses?
Do you like the Ideal of no State taxes?
Have any input on taxes?
After filing your taxes.............. was the date with the IRS a good one?

Norwood COW Meeting

On Thursday April 7, 2011 the Norwood COW(council of the whole body) meet.  This meeting had three things on the agenda
1. Current expenses
2. Unpaid Bills
3. Budget/Appropriations
Nothing got done and it will be held over till the City Council Meeting on Tuesday April 12, 2011.

Norwoods Public Workers-Private Pain

The City of Norwood is in a battle over the budget.  The City is 2.6 million dollars short of money. The Mayor and members of City Council is in a big mess.  The Mayor and the entire Administration let this happen.  It is that plain and simple.  This is a problem that could have been prevented. I do have a question........ Mayor and City Council members did you not have other issues and things to work on?  Did it have to get this messy? You are causing your Public Workers to have  private pain?

You see they are the forgotten ones.  The ones that do the dirty work.  A thankless job that this Administration have overlooked and underpaid. They are the ones that the city don't recognize.  These workers are giving the city everything to help out.  Even cutting their 40 hour work week down to 36 hours a week.  That is a cut that most of us would not want.  Not to mention they would love to make a little over time money.  That is simply not going to happen.  Their finances are being hit hard.  They are left in the middle of the Mayor and City Council's mess.  When all they want to do is work a simple J-O-B.

These Public Workers live right here in our city.  They have families that reside here.  They go to school here they volunteer here, they eat, shop and play here.  Now their pay is being put on the auction block.  As if they can be sold to any bidder.  The City has left a sour taste in the mouth of the best customer service providers they have.

When you see those bright yellow jackets working  around the city.  Smile-wave- but most of all tell them we feel your private pain.

Eight and Eleven year Old set NORCO Fire

This is a damn shame.  Where were the parents of these kids?  I don't know but I'm going out on a limb and say the parents were not at home and did not know where these kids were.  I could go further and venture to say the kids were black.  I say this because of the number of black families moving into that area.  One thing for sure I'm glad they got them before they hurt someone or something.

A big ups to the fine firemen of Norwood and all those that assisted in putting out that fire.  Glad to see no one was hurt and the city got the property cleared away.  Good job.

Town Hall Meeting

On Thursday the Norwood School District will host a town hall meeting.  The date is April 7th at 6pm at Sharpsburg School.  It will be interesting to see what the district has to say.  Will it be more spin on the levy?  Will it be to answer the many many questions people have about issues concerning the schools?  Will it be to rally the troops to go out and sell this 10 year 8 million dollar mess?  Will Mr. Amodio announce he is moving on to another 100,000.00 paying job?

I could be wrong but it seems like these town hall meetings are being held in a rush.  My question is why the rush?  Should the board have not been haveing town hall meetings all along?  Maybe, maybe not, either way it will be decided by the voters if they think the school board has cared enough.

President Seeks Re-Election in 2012

Yesterday, President Barack Obama announced he would run for re-election.  You may have heard about it.  The media coverage was too busy with Charlie Sheen and Dancing With the Stars.  Yes, in spit of all the President has had to deal with, he still cares enough about America to serve again.  That is honorable.  I can not think of one other President that has had to tolerate and endure the things this President has had to.

The BP oil spill, the earthquake in Haiti, the huge deficit he inherited, the county going into a recession, the tsunami in Japan, the terrible poll numbers, the unrest in Libya, the high gas and fuel prices, two wars he voted against.  yes, this President has been tested with all kinds of messes.  Like him or not I'm glad he is standing wanting to serve America again.  Best of Luck Mr. President.

CAUTION.........SLOW DOWN

Residents please use caution when traveling on Duck Creek, Williams, Smith, and Edwards road.  The company doing the repairs is doing all they can.  Watch the man holes and the man holes covers.  Drive slow and watch out for the workers and children.

Our Superintendent is selling Fear

Superintendent Robert Amodio sent a letter home to parents on April 1, 2011.  The letter was placed in the package along with the children's report card.  I think the Superintendent is trying to scare the parents into voting for this ridiculous tax levy.

On Jan 24, 2011 the Norwood City School District Board of Education voted unanimously to place a 8.61 mill 10 year Emergency Levy on the ballot for May 3, 2011.  The word unanimously strikes me the most.  Is it a fact that not one board member voted no on the Levy? Norwood Board you are telling us that not one person felt uncomfortable enough to say no.  I find it odd that everyone would be doing the same o thing.  Going along to get along.

I fear this levy is tied into the Gov. Kasish  HB5.  The letter stated, through collaboration with the unions all school employees had a base pay freeze for two years, beginning with the 2009-10 school year.  Well those two years are almost up.  Will this levy money go into employees raises?  I would say "yes" and that is where I have a issue.

People don't fear voting No.  Hold the Board to the oath they took.  Serve or else get off the board and let fresh air get in there.

Extra Extra.........Message from the Mayor

In a letter dated Jan. 6, 2011 the Mayor explained to the more than 150 city workers his opinions of the budget.  At one point he stated the city has been in this budget crisis before.  He also stated he was proud of the city workers and how they have conducted themselves during this period.

Mr. Mayor will you answer a few questions?

1.  When the 2009 surplus was used in 2010, when did you start to work on the 2011 budget?

2.  How much income from the up and coming businesses do you anticipate in the 2011 calendar year?

3. When will you discuss the quality of life issues of your city?

We all know the Mayor has never been able to tackle the tough questions.  He seems to be consumed with getting new businesses to come here.  While most would agree we welcome the new businesses we still need to focus on other pressing important issues.

If you could speak the our Mayor what would be your pressing issue?  Let us know, we would love to hear from you.

Attention................................Attention

The Norwood girls varsity softball team lost their last two games.  On Thursday the girls hosted Deer Park.  They lost by a score of 18 to 0.
On Friday they hosted Harrison High School and lost by a  lot of points to 0.

Ladies you will win some and you will lose some. It does not matter at the end of the day.  The question is did you have some fun?  Was the experience a good one?  Is there anything you could have done better?  Would you want your children to act like you?  If you answered yes to all these questions you represent Norwood  the way we would like.

The girls next home game is Monday April 4th at 4:30 pm.  The ballpark next to the high school.  See you there.

BROWBEATING NORWOODS BUDGET

I sit here wishing there were lots of new, fun, exciting things to talk about in Norwood.  Instead the City Officials are browbeating this budget issue.  Sure, its important.  It is just as important today as it was this time last year.  Where was the decision making leaders?  Why did they not see the writing on the wall?  The amount of tax revenue coming into the city was far less than anticipated.  Did no one question this issue.  I mean where could their heads have been?  Who is minding the City's business?  I said in another article on this blog, The Mayor has failed this City terribly.  This is embarrassing and shameful.

My personal opinion about the budget is the NPD and NFD need to take a huge cut.  Their budgets alone make it impossible for the other departments to operate.  For two departments to take almost 70% of the money is unfair.  I will make it clear, I respect their jobs.  However, I have a few issues with how they do their jobs.

When you are the type of person I am, you will have lots and lots of encounters with police.  I see this as a good thing.  Especially since I'm a "round the way girl".  In all my worldly experiences I can say without a doubt Norwood Police are the most unprofessional department I have ever had to deal with.  With that being said, I say cut their money.  A city's police department will make or break a city.  NORWOOD YOUR CITY IS BROKE!!!!!!!!!!  So is your police department.  It has the worst police customer service I have ever seen.

Being a cop is easy.  It becomes hard when you get too full of yourself(Norwood).  Being a cop gets hard when you put yourself before the people you serve.  Being a cop gets hard when you stop doing what you took the oath to do, Protect and Serve.  Cops nowadays are over paid and under scrutinized.  They have way to much authority with little to no oversight.  Cops are good people, the job makes them dishonest.  Even in a City this small being a cop should be real easy.  We only have four miles to patrol.  Take it easy, relax, and treat those you encounter like you would your mother.

The budget needs your help firemen and police officers.  Take a major cut for now.  Watch, look and listen for the future to be better.  Then come back and ask for more pay.  Until then, stop being the hold up.  Let the unions make tough pay cuts, grit your teeth, grin and bear it.  We all are suffering.

Norwood Getting Sued.........What is New?

Norwood is being sued by the Legal Aide Society.  The lawsuit claims that the Building Department Director Gerry Stoker just walked into their apartment asking silly questions and told them they had till 5pm to vacate the property.  Do you believe it happened just like this?  Oh, yea it did.  I first got wind of this case when I was contacted by HOME(housing opportunity made equal).  They contacted me and asked my questions about my experience in Norwood.  I told them my experience so far has been horrible.

She/He explained that they have had lots and lots of complaints about Norwood.  She/He stated it would not be so bad except Norwood is arrogant and dishonest.  She/He said this city is a hard nut to crack when trying to get them to do what is legally and morally right.  They just will not follow the law. Nor will they treat their residents(minorities) with any kind of respect.  They make up their own laws.  Such as in this case.

Norwood do you really need this drama?  Your city is falling apart.  Your streets are dirty.  Your parks are old, stale, and unkept.  Your pools are closing.  Your schools are in academic watch.  Your police are over paid and unprofessional.  Your Mayor is old and out-dated.  Your council members are ineffective.  Your budget is not balanced.  Your Firemen(cause women are not allowed)are over paid and under worked.  Your city hall meeting room is dirty and unclean.  Your history is sad and full of dark days.  Your departments are full of family and friends.  Your army tank on the main strip is played out.  Your businesses complain because their workers are getting harassed by police.  Your building department is full of guys that run that department likes it their own personal toy.  Your streets are full of potholes and crumbling debris.  You have no new green space.  Your crime statics have greatly risen.  Your seniors are not getting what they need or want.  Your health department is over rated and un-used.  I could go on and on but you get my message.  Norwood stop being unprofessional and racist and some of these lawsuits will go away.

I have watched this city fall into trouble for years.  Kinda like sweet revenge from all the folks that have had to endure this racist hateful city.  Good luck men on your lawsuit.  You deserve it. I'll keep you informed of the case and will attempt to interview the men involved.  Stay tune.

Gerry Stoker.........A Menace to Norwood

Gerry Stroker is Norwoods Building Commissioner.  I have had personal dealings with this man and I can say without a doubt he is a menace to Norwood.  He is unprofessional, rude, racist, and suffers from small man syndrome.  My contact with him was horrible.

In 2009 I contacted the Building Department to enquirer about what I needed to do to start and operate my childcare center.  I was referred to Gerry Stoker(small man).  This man took me through tons and tons of pure hell.  He made me pay fees, attend a public hearing, and file too many papers.  He spoke in a disrespectful and hateful tone.  In his power trip he acted  as if he knew what he was doing.  He made it known it was going to be his way or else I would not operate my center.

When I attended the zone hearing he asked me all types of stupid question.  How many kids?  What hours of operation?  Was the parking good?  What about signs?  It was ridiculous and he knew it.  I had to have a zoning change?  I had to attend the meeting etc.etc.  When in the very end he had egg on his face.

The City Law director told us at the zoning meeting that Norwood Building Commissioner has absolutely nothing to do with my childcare center............NOTHING!  I was to get my money back for the fees and to operate as I wished. Because Childcare Centers are a State issue not city.  Just that plain and simple.

He also tried to cite me for not having a hand rail on my porch stairs.  Until I had to seek legal assistance with this matter.  The lawyers came out took pictures of my property and my next door neighbor(who is white) and told me to let them bring the citations on.  If my next door neighor can have porch steps with no rail so could I.    Never heard anything else about a rail.

My point is Gerry Stoker(I refuse to call him Mr.) is the reason Norwood is made fun of.  This type of nonsense is why Tracy sits on WLW and calls Norwood all kinds of true names. Too much power in one mans hand.  He has to answer to no one.  He runs that department with no integrity and honesty.  Goes back to this city lacking any type of professional leadership.  This city is ran on nepotism, sexism, and good o fashion racism.  Just hold on folks that  particular department is going to cost this city a lot more money than it already has.

When Keeping Up.............Can really keep you down

As I attended the Norwood Varsity girls Softball game today(3-24-2011) I noticed something unique but odd.  I noticed the girls from Roger Bacon did not have uniforms.  This is what they were wearing.  Some had on sweat pants.  The pants were all different colors.  Some were gray, black, and beige.  The jersy's were all different types and colors.  Some of RB girls wore short sleeves, long sleeves, mismatch jackets. Only one girl had a number on the back of her shirt.  Another girl had letters missing from the name on the back of her shirt that was turned inside out.    I must say it was different from what I was use to seeing.  These girls did not have a care in the world as to what they looked like. But man o man could they play.  They put the smack down on our clean, well groomed, organized, well fitted matching uniform girls.

Keeping up with the cost of things is what Norwood District tries to do.  Every year they have to buy new cheerleading uniforms as the Athletic Director explained to me.  Every year they have to go to the same catalog company for their purchases.  Every year its the same thing with the only exception being the price, it usually has gone up.  When does the year come that it STOPS!

I hope this year is the year we send the message stop the unnecessary spending.  I hope voting No on this levy will finally send the message we are tired of paying for things, when we can make do on what we already have.  As we say in the hood,"make it do what it do".  Yes, we were the best dressed out on the field.  Our girls looked sharp in their new shirts, new socks, and matching uniforms.  The only problem I have with this is .............BY US TRYING TO KEEP UP ..........IT IS REALLY GETTING US DOWN.

Norwood Girls Softball team: Losers

As Charlie Sheen would say our girls are; Losers. The Norwood Varsity girls Softball team traveled to Roger Bacon only to be defeated by a score of 12-0.  The team was sluggish.  They lacked team spirit.  They looked like the players in the movie, The Bad Luck Bears.  They were awful.  They could not catch, they could not hit, they could not get it together.  I wondered if they knew where they were?

This situation is typical of what Norwood produces in sports.  I have watched the boys basketball team since the 7th grade and most of the same players are now Sophomores.  Over 4 straight year I guess those boys may have won five games total(maybe).  That folks is a shame.  Leadership starts at the top and from my personal knowledge of the Norwood School District leadership  is lacking.  That is why our sport teams are lacking.  This School District lacks  the will power to make serious changes.  They lack the will to step out of the "this is the way we always do it song".

There is a $50.00 dollar participation fee for each student that wants to play sports for the year.  After what I witnessed today, I think they owe me $50.00 for making me watch that beat down.  As I told J.D. Foust the cost of playing, uniforms, snacks, bus, gas, jackets, shirts, hats etc. all go up and up yet the winning gets less and less.  It's not so much they took a serious beat down it's just that they are so use to it, they lack the will power to try to win.  It's a well we are gonna lose anyway, what is the point in trying.  Norwood is very well know for this.  I'll attend the next game and I'll report back to you.  Lets hope I can bring the we are "winners" banner home.

Finance Issue Getting Funky

The funk coming out of Norwood City Hall has folks holding their noses.  Things are getting real funky.  Police Department vs. Public Works(i'll take Public Works), 911 Dispatchers vs. Health Department, Recreation Department vs. Fire Department on and on.  Folks left the Norwood City Council Meeting last night(3-22-2011)still wondering if they will have a job.  Still not knowing what the future have in store.

The City of Norwood Ohio is faced with a 2.6 million dollar shortage for the year 2011.  The Mayor and the City Council Members dropped the stink bomb on everyone.  They failed their residents, tax-payers, voters, businesses, homeowners, families, children, seniors, teachers, and the entire city.  They failed to show leadership qualities when it came to the city finances.  Plain and simple.  Now at the last minute things are smelling real bad.  Shame on the Mayor and every council member.

Being a responsible leader would have lead the Mayor and each Council Member to start talks about the money issues a long time ago(how about all last year?)  It's too late now, things are getting real funky around this town.

Norwoods Negros will Not Be Neglected

The Negros in this community will not continue to be neglected.  As if we don't exist.  As if we don't belong.  At some point the stiff collar, white power structure has got to come to peace with the fact that Negros live, work, eat, plays, entertains, pay-taxes, and own homes just like they do.  Once upon a time Negros living in Norwood was unheard of.  Rumors says black folk was not allowed in this town after dark.  For if the Negro was caught after sun-down the white town folk would make they pay.

During the early 1900's the graduating class's were all white.  The land owners were all white.  The city Goverment was all white.  Never in the history of Norwood has a Negro been elected to any form of official Goverment position.  Yea, some love this little known white history fact.  One they can brag about.

The 21st Century will bring big surprises to those bragging.  The Negros in this town will one day wake up and get together and make history.  No doubt about it.  It is only a matter of time.

Will you embrace your Norwood Negro's as they live, work, eat, play, entertain, pay-taxes, own homes and maybe............... just maybe become a Goverment Official Elected resident?

Girls Varsity Softball is Here

Lets Play Nice about Norwood

As a Norwood resident I ask myself... I say self... what is nice about Norwood?  I say two things.  The first is the homes.  The homes are affordable.  Most adults start to wish for a home in their early thirtys.  Banks take into consideration the age of the purchaser.  If you are looking for some real-estate lottery forget it.  The value of the homes(mine included)are declining.  So is the neigborhood.  That is another subject I will discuss at a later time.

The second thing is you can walk to the places you want to go.  You have to put one foot in front of the other and get out there and walk.  Mind you I have witness the reasons why the tax paying residents don't want to walk.  That is another subject I will discuss at a later time.

The Mayor has failed Norwood

I remember when  Tom Williams was elected as Mayor of Norwood, Ohio.  The city was in population decline.  General Motors had left taking with it lots of income taxes.  The homeowners were feeling apprehensive about their future.  Businesses were declining on the main strip.  The communities around Norwood was falling apart due to lack of care or concern.  Norwood was becoming the place to be if you were down on your luck, a drug addict, wanted cheap rent, needed a minumin wage job, or wanted to buy a car at a buy here pay here dealership.  Yes, the Mayor lived right in the middle of the change.

When he was elected Mayor I would think that he would start to address real issues right away.  Nope, did not happen and has never happened.  The Mayor will not highlight, address, discuss, mention nor will he deal with the Norwood that has changed right before his very eyes.  I have watched it change since I moved here in 1993.  The residents see the same changes I'm talking about.  It is a change the Mayor is uncomfortable with.  Please Vote him out and get a Mayor that will talk to you like the adults you are.  Elect a Mayor that will not be afraid to discuss and tackle the tough issues of 2011.

Like Ohio's New Governor?......Thank a Tea Party Member

The Tea Party had so much dislike and racism for our President that they voted this person into office.  Now they must deal with it.  I'm glad they are getting just what they deserve.  I say burn them Gov. Kasish.  You burn everyone and everything you come into contact with.  Did the Tea Party really think you were going to work in their best interest?

President Obama will be elected in 2012 and America will be better off for it.

It's Friday in the City of Norwood, Ohio 45212.  Do you have any plans to go out in the city?  Where would you go in Norwood on a Friday night?  Is there anywhere to go in Norwood?  Do you think we need more to do in the City?  What would you suggest?  I have my ideals.
