Fire In Vacant House

Crews investigate fire in vacant Norwood house
NORWOOD, OH (FOX19)- Fire crews are investigating the cause of a fire at a vacant Norwood home.
The fire broke out around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning in the 5200 block of Globe Avenue.
Crews say the fire started in an upstairs room of the house. Fire damage was limited to that room. However, smoke and water damage was extensive throughout the home.
The house is believed to be in foreclosure.
Neighbors say they saw someone working on the house earlier in the week.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Norwood 14-year old Helping Teen Girls

14-year old CEO teams up with Pantene for new anti-bullying initiative14-year old Azariah, CEO of Love Share Care
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A 14-year old Norwood girl is helping to develop a new initiative to raise self esteem and help teen girls recognize the beauty in others.
Azariah Brown is the founder and CEO of LoveShareCare.com, an online social networking site that was designed to combat the growing cyber bully epidemic.
Pantene is teaming up with Love Share Care to sponsor monthly "Do Good" challenges.
"Not only is being bullied a major issue for girls, so is self esteem. Molding inward beauty is just as important as grooming outward beauty," says Azariah.
During the months of September to June, Love Share Care will host “Do Good” challenges online. Each “Do Good’ challenge will give LSC members the opportunity to gain rewards for participating in random acts of kindness. Challenges will be posted monthly and members have all month to enter for a chance to win the sponsored prize. "
"By teaming up with companies like Pantene, we are able to steer girls towards positive interaction and reward them with products they love," says Azariah’s mom Mercedes Brown.
Throughout the school year, Pantene will sponsor four “Do Good” challenges by rewarding winners with complete beauty collection hair care products

Norwood Branch Library Events

Spending, Saving, Sharing for Kids will be held at the Norwood Branch of the Cincinnati Public Library on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
The event will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
According to an announcement from the library, the concepts and skills needed to be a financially responsible adult can be formed in childhood. This story time for families incorporates books and activities to help children learn the basics of spending, saving, and sharing. Back-to-school supplies and books will be given to each child. Refreshments will be served.
The event, for families and children, is free.



A Family Film will be held at the Norwood Branch of the Cincinnati Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 31.
The event will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. in the meeting room.
According to an announcement from the library, attendants can pend some time at the library and watch a family-friendly movie.
The event is free.



Lego Club will be held at the Norwood Branch of the Cincinnati Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 3.
The event will take place from 4-5 p.m. in the meeting room.
According to an announcement from the library, Lego lovers ages 6 to 12 are invited to create and build with other Lego lovers.
The event is free.


The Cincinnati Public Library - Norwood Branch hosts an Educator Open House on Thursday, Aug. 15.
The open house is from 9-11 a.m. at the library, 4325 Montgomery Road.
"Educators, join us to hear about the many exciting services the library provides for teachers, parents and students. Information will include educator cards, teacher collections, class and school visits, homework help resources and library programs. Tours of the library will also be available. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided, as well as a door prize drawing and book giveaways," according to a library press release.

The Hamilton County Auditor received the following vendor license application for the period of July 16-31:
Jen-Tex Deli's Inc., of Jason's Deli, applied for a license July 19 for limited-service eating places. The business is at 3831 Edwards Road, No. 400, Cincinnati.
The Hamilton County auditor serves as chief fiscal officer, chief assessor and chief payroll officer for the county. The office of the auditor is at 138 E. Court St., Cincinnati.



Robert P. Rompies sold a three-bedroom, one-bath home at 2217 Kenilworth Ave., in Norwood, to Daniel P. Hall for $120,000 on July 12.
The 1,550-square-foot, two-story home last sold for $114,600 in December 2009. It is located in Pleasant Ridge neighborhood of Norwood.
There have been 169 home sales in Norwood during the past 12 months with a median sale price of $80,000.


A Norwood Firefighter was placed on adminstrative leave after he was accused with domestic violence.
Sean Turner was charged with assult after police say he struck his girlfriend.
Officials with the Fire Department declined comment on the case
Turner has worked for the Fire Department since October.


New Courtyard by Marriott hotel opens in Norwood
NORWOOD, OH (FOX19) - A new hotel is now open at the Rookwood Exchange in Norwood.
The Courtyard by Marriott hotel officially opened their doors on Tuesday. The 85,000 square foot, 123 room hotel sits right off of I-71. This location makes the hotel a nice alternative to staying downtown.
The hotel offers free wireless internet for guests, a fitness room, three meeting rooms and coffee shop The Bistro.
There are about 20 guests booked to stay at the hotel Tuesday night.
